About Us
The goal of the Farmers Union Carbon Credit Program is to enhance the income of farmers and ranchers through economically successful and environmentally sound land management practices that reduce or offset carbon emissions.
To gain access to the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX) market (currently the only open market for agricultural soil offsets) individual agricultural producers contract with an aggregator and are placed in multi-contract, multi-state carbon credit “pools”. The aggregator arranges for annual verification of contracts, registers approved pool credits on the CCX, sell credits on the CCX trading platform and return proceeds, less fees, to contract holders on an annual basis.
North Dakota Farmers Union is an official aggregator of carbon credits for the CCX. Though the program is offered to farmers and ranchers in almost all regions of the country, NDFU continues to be the fiscal agent for holding title, registering and selling the offsets, maintaining the database and Web site information, and enrolling producers.
We do not have any local offices or affiliates. All of our contract holders use our web-based enrollment system, so we actually have thousands of enrollment experts all over the country. In addition, we have tried to make our Web site as informative as possible and our staff is available to help with any questions you may have- so your friends and neighbors are your best local resources and our staff is just a quick phone call or email away. This framework allows us to run an efficient highly effective program with minimal cost to contract holders.
